Short Story

Seeing as FundaMaya (which is our partner NGO that helps us identify families and install the solar panels to families living alongside Lake Atitlan) installs four panels at a time to make their worker’s day and transportation costs worth while, we have decided to raise donations to four families at a time through this campaign.  This also allows donors to donate larger donations through one campaign at once if they would like to do so.  The following families will benefit when we have reached this campaigns goal.

Campaign Story

Seeing as FundaMaya (which is our partner NGO that helps us identify families and install the solar panels to families living alongside Lake Atitlan) installs four panels at a time to make their worker’s day and transportation costs worth while, we have decided to raise donations to four families at a time through this campaign.  This also allows donors to donate larger donations through one campaign at once if they would like to do so.  The following families will benefit when we have reached this campaigns goal.

Estela Mucun’s family relies on jobs with low incomes and varying availability of work. Although they have electricity, their financial situation makes it difficult to cover basic expenses and keep their home functioning properly. Therefore, the family would like to have a solar panel, as this would provide them with a more stable and economical energy source, reduce their dependence on conventional electricity, and ensure lighting in different areas of the house without worrying about the monthly cost.

Ana Ruth’s family lives in Panajachel, in a room in her maternal grandmother’s house, where most of the furniture and spaces they use don’t belong to them. Their living conditions and income are very limited. The family doesn’t have a solar panel, but they would like to have one for their room. Given their financial situation, energy costs, and the child’s medical needs, a solar panel would help them reduce expenses, improve their well-being, and provide a safer and more stable environment for the three children.

Blanca Lozot’s family lives in Panajachel in a room shared with two other families, under very limited conditions. Their furniture, beds, and utensils are in poor condition, and their income is insufficient to cover their basic needs. The family does not have a solar panel, but they do have space to install one. Due to their economic situation and the high cost of energy, a solar panel would allow them to reduce expenses, improve their well-being, and provide a safer and more stable environment for their child.

La familia de María Cecilia lives in a simple cinderblock house with a corrugated metal roof and cement floor. Although they have electricity, the monthly bill is around Q300.00, which is difficult to cover due to their financial situation and the health problems of both the mother and her daughter. A solar panel would be a great help in reducing their electricity costs and allowing the family to allocate their limited resources to food and medical care. This solution would provide them with stability and significantly improve their living conditions. María Cecilia’s parents have diabetes and suffer from high blood pressure; her mother requires lifelong medication.
